My Amy Pond costume got several compliments. And I was told by one person that I made "a very cute Amy Pond." Cue my face turning as red as my hair.
There was a moment when I walked by a table and I heard a conversation between three men going "Is that Amy Pond?" "Yes, I think it was." "Amy Pond? That was her?!" "It was Amy Pond?" When I walked back, they stopped me, asking if I was indeed Amy Pond. There was also a slight disagreement between two gentlemen about whether I actually sounded like her. My answer was no, I sound nothing like her. Especially with the lack of a Scottish accent (can only sort of sound like her when she is screaming at the Doctor. That was a fun one to find out one day.) Finally the discussion ended when another of the men agreed with me that I sound nothing like Amy and the subject was dropped.
Many Who theories were discussed on Sunday between myself and some other Who fans, mainly between the man who ran the Browncoats table and in charge of ushering people to the fan-made movie that is a fan-made continuation of Firefly. We threw about some theories, both of us bringing up ideas that neither of us have thought of before. Hmm... To prevent spoilers of the last couple of episodes (in case there are some people out there that haven't seen the last couple of episodes), I won't put our theories up here.
Now, to the costume. Getting everything together was actually a lot easier than I had initially thought. I already had the cowboy boots, the jeans, and I had plenty of yarn to make the scarf and gloves (I just had to create a pattern for the gloves, which wasn't too difficult after I looked at some already existing glove patterns and once I figured out how those worked, it was just a matter of adjusting to look like Amy's gloves in "The Pandorica Opens"). A quick trip to Wal*Mart and I was able to find a couple of five dollar shirts for the layered purple shirts. The most difficult time I had with the costume was the leather jacket. Which was eventually solved by borrowing one of my Dad's. It was a little wide in the shoulder, but other than that, it fit perfectly.
Pretty much, Amy is pretty easy to cosplay. Not too much that you have to do. Though, next year, I think I will go with an outfit that is a little less layered. The A/C at Shoreleave wasn't as strong as it usually is so the heat was really getting to me.
Overall though, it was a blast! Definitely want to do this again.
Would love if I could find an 11th Doctor or a Rory. That would make it even better, I think!
Two more things. As an early birthday present, my bff bought me a sonic screwdriver. And, Christopher Judge (Teal'c of Stargate SG-1) remarked on my costume, which made me very happy.
That's all from me for now!
